Wrestling star announces retirement at 40; career ends after 22 years

A popular wrestling star has walked away into the sunset for good at the age of 40 years after capping off an over two-decade career in the business. In a recent social media post, indie performer Cabana Man Dan bid adieu to his fans.

Dan was a veteran of the industry who began his career way back in 2003. Though he never made it to any of the big leagues like WWE or AEW, he had a cult following in Georgia’s indie wrestling circuit. Following his final match on December 20, the 40-year-old issued a statement announcing his retirement.

In a lengthy write-up, Cabana Man Dan mentioned how he always valued being surrounded by friends and well-wishers over fame and money. He also extended his thanks to those who attended his final match over the weekend.

Check out the post below:

“My heart is full and my present life is complete. Thank you professional wrestling. It was one hell of a journey,” the caption read.

Cabana Man Dan wasn’t the only wrestling star retire in 2025

Dan wasn’t the only star to hang up his boots in 2025, as several performers, some massive in stature, also bid farewell to the business.

The biggest of them is, of course, John Cena, who retired less than two weeks ago at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2025, where he lost to Gunther. The Ring General was also the final opponent of Goldberg, who ended his career in July this year.

Apart from these two megastars, the legendary Christopher Daniels wrestled his last match in January and subsequently transitioned to a backstage role in AEW. Meiko Satomura was another high-profile star who retired after a farewell tour in Japan. Lastly, Jack Swagger made a low-key exit from the industry after announcing that he had started a trucking business in Florida.
