A popular WWE personality has made it clear that there have been absolutely no behind-the-scenes discussions about him possibly lacing up his wrestling boots again. In a recent interview, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis revealed that even though there’s been no discussion, he wasn’t fully opposed to the idea.
Before his WWE signing in August 2023, Aldis was among the most respected performers on the indie circuit. He had a storied run in both TNA and NWA, capturing numerous championships. However, when the global juggernaut finally came knocking on his door, it was for an altogether different reason.
Nick Aldis worked as a producer backstage for a couple of months before being promoted to the on-screen role of SmackDown’s GM. Though he’s been nothing less than spectacular in the role, his fans have often wondered if there was any chance of him stepping inside the ring again. In a recent chat with Konnan on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Aldis shared an update on his future as a wrestler.
The 39-year-old star revealed that WWE hadn’t discussed him potentially competing again as a wrestler. However, Aldis added that if given the chance to wrestle again, he would accept it in a heartbeat.
“It’s not really been talked about one way or the other,” Aldis admitted. But when asked if he’d like to wrestle again, he didn’t hesitate: “Of course, dude.” (H/T – RingsideNews)
Nick Aldis on being rejected by WWE previously
Elsewhere in the same chat, Nick Aldis also opened up about how he was rejected by the global juggernaut in the past in a way that left quite a bitter taste in his mouth.
He recalled that former WWE Executive Canyon Ceman, who left the company in 2021, once turned him down without offering any feedback.
“There was a time where I was slightly offended by how unceremonious it was. But it was a couple times, like, Canyon Ceman back in the day… He pretty much was just like, in the most corporate way possible, basically just told me to F off, and I was just like, ‘Wow.’ Not trying to say that I deserve a little more than that but I mean, no feedback… And that to me was sort of when I started to think, okay, this feels more personal than business, and look, obviously, the structure at WWE has changed a lot and obviously, it’s a very different group of cats in decision-making positions.”
Only time will tell whether the promotion will have Aldis wrestle again or if his in-ring career is now simply a thing of the past.
