Sam Roberts wants to see Gunther dethrone Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania if he beats Cody Rhodes
Sam Roberts pitched the idea of Drew McIntyre winning the Undisputed WWE Championship by defeating Cody Rhodes on next week’s SmackDown in Berlin, Germany.
Speaking on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, the analyst suggested that WWE should capitalize on Gunther’s momentum after he submitted John Cena in his final match and have him win the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble Match. Roberts said:
“I think Gunther is being built as a monster that is the future of WWE and is the guy that’s gonna be there to help build up young talent and turn young talent into larger-than-life superstars. And I think one way you get there is that Gunther becomes Cody Rhodes’ big rival (…) What if Drew McIntyre took to WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes and then Gunther beat Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania?”
McIntyre’s last reign as a World Champion was back at WrestleMania XL, when he captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Seth Rollins. However, his reign ended in seconds after Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Meanwhile, Rhodes’ second reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion began after he defeated John Cena at SummerSlam 2025. With the win, The American Nightmare ended the Last Real Champion’s final reign as a WWE World Champion.
