William Regal has been reportedly replaced in WWE. The veteran is in his second run with the company, having rejoined the promotion in 2023 following a stint with All Elite Wrestling.
Regal has taken on the behind-the-scenes role of Vice President of Global Talent Development and also played a key role in recruiting talent to WWE and NXT during his first stint.
However, there could be a change in Regal’s role in the promotion. Ibou of Self Made Pro recently shared an update on the recruitment scene in WWE. Speaking on the Self Made Sessions, he said Regal has been replaced in the recruitment area by Matt Bloom.
“I don’t know if it’s just that he has replaced Regal’s position. But again Regal would do that even for guys who go through developmental like Dragon Lee, but right now, at least on the developmental side, the guy doing that right now is the former Giant Bernard, who wrestled in New Japan as Giant Bernard. I’m talking about Matt Bloom,” he said.
Ibou mentioned that Bloom has been asked to keep an eye on talent in Japan and said perhaps Regal’s previous recruits may not have impressed WWE.
“They got him right now, locking in on what’s going on in New Japan. Purely speculative, I wonder if they maybe saw the previous Regal signings like Cobb and some of these guys and said, ‘Hey man, I don’t know about your scouting lately.’ I don’t know. That’s pure speculation, just pure speculation. But right now, Tensai is handling that end of things,” he said.
William Regal showed up on RAW before Survivor Series: WarGames
Since returning to WWE in 2023, William Regal has remained in a mostly non-televised role. Previously, he served as the on-screen General Manager of NXT.
However, with tensions building on RAW between The Visions and CM Punk, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes, Regal made a surprise appearance on the show.
As RAW GM Adam Pearce was talking to Rhodes, Jey, and Punk, the Second City Saint called in William Regal, who simply declared ‘WarGames’ in his trademark style.
